National Mountain Training organisations and trustees/directors

National Mountain Training organisations

The national Mountain Training organisations are the awarding bodies for qualifications and skills training. They approve providers and course directors who deliver the courses on our behalf. All of the national Mountain Training organisations are not for profit, some are registered charities.

Trustees/directors

Each of the national Mountain Training organisations has a board of trustees, often referred to as non-executive directors. They are volunteers with specialist or sector-related experience who support the staff and each organisation’s strategic direction.

Course providers, course directors, tutors

Course providers

In England, Scotland and Wales, providers are organisations approved by one of the national Mountain Training organisations. In Ireland and Northern Ireland, providers are individuals. The provider has responsibilities to their respective national Mountain Training organisation with regards to course administration.

Course directors

Course directors are responsible for delivering our courses, training and assessing candidates in the climbing wall, on the rock or in the hills, using the relevant syllabus. They may be supported by additional staff if necessary. Course directors are responsible for submitting a completed course report which is the official record of a candidate’s training/assessment.
