MTA volunteering awards 2022

At the 2022 Mountain Training Association (MTA) Biennial Conference, Friday 18th to Sunday 20th November at the Field Studies Council Blencathra, we will be presenting our first ever Volunteer Awards to members who have gone above and beyond, shown initiative and drive, and made a difference in what they do.
Categories and criteria are all listed below and cover areas such as the environment, access, equity, diversity, and inclusion, as well as well-being, mental and/or physical, and youth engagement.
Nominations will open in early September and we will outline the nomination process then. However, if there’s someone you know who’s volunteering deserves acknowledgement, send us an email to outline why you think they would be a good recipient and we'll be in touch when nominations open.

Volunteer of the Year
The overall MTA Volunteer of the Year.
External Awards
Volunteer of the Year – Environmental
Someone who set-up a sustainability/environmental support/awareness raising initiative that had a significant impact or was heavily involved in the organisation or running of such an initiative.
And/or
Someone who volunteered a significant amount of time with an environmental organisation and made a significant impact.
Volunteer of the Year – Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
Someone who set-up an initiative on inclusion that had a significant impact or was heavily involved in the organisation or running of such a project with a focus on one or more of the following groups: women and/or girls; supporting people from minority groups (such as but not limited to LGBTQ+ people, people from lower socio-economic backgrounds, people who are gender non-conforming, people of faith or belief); or people from different ethnic backgrounds to white British or Irish.
And/or
Someone who volunteered a significant amount of time with an organisation that supports one of the groups highlighted above and made a significant impact.
Volunteer of the Year – Well-being (Mental and Physical)
Someone who set-up an initiative that had a significant impact to support Mental Health/Well-being or was heavily involved in the organisation or running of such an initiative.
and/or
Someone who volunteered a significant amount of time with an organisation that supports mental and/or physical well-being and made a significant impact.
Volunteer of the Year – Youth engagement
Someone who set-up an initiative that had a significant impact on inclusion with a focus on younger people or supporting young people from lower socio-economic backgrounds or was heavily involved in the organisation or running of such an initiative.
and/or
Someone who volunteered a significant amount of time with a youth organisation and made a significant impact.
Volunteer of the Year – Accessibility
Someone who set-up an initiative that had a significant impact to support people with disabilities and/or those with accessibility needs or was heavily involved in the organisation or running of such an initiative.
and/or
Someone who volunteered a significant amount of time with an organisation with a focus on accessibility and/or that supports people with disabilities and made a significant impact.
Internal Awards
To be selected internally by staff and volunteers of the MTA.
