2021 bookings now open!
The Mountain Training Association is thrilled to announce the launch of the 2021 programme of
Met Office mountain weather workshops!
These sessions have been carefully designed to support the syllabi of Mountain Training's qualifications as well as to enhance the knowledge of qualified leaders and instructors. They are all about practically applying information gained from weather forecasts during the planning stage and dynamically whilst out in the hills and mountains.
The Met Office are eager to engage with the mountain user community, passing on information to help the public understand how to use the forecast information provided; enabling them to make informed decisions whilst enjoying their time in the great outdoors.
The workshops are being delivered by a team of experts from the Met Office and include Dr. Mike Reading, Senior Operational Meteorologist from the Met Office in Aberdeen.
In the interest of the safety and well-being of all members of our community, the Mountain Training Association and the Met Office have taken the decision to bring the Met Office weather workshop offerings online for the first half of 2021. The Met Office have spent a great deal of time planning and preparing a new online version of their ‘in person’ training events; ensuring that they continue to deliver a high quality service and excellent training for attendees, and the online delivery that took place in 2020 was very well-received by attendees.

"The two course presenters were superb. Extremely clear and knowledgeable - very patient with the technology and with the mixture of levels of experience within the group. I felt comfortable to offer up daft questions or to have a punt at an answer no matter how wrong I was (which I certainly did!) Their passion and expertise were infectious" - James Weaver, 2020 (online session)

"Just a quick note to say, what a fantastic training day yesterday with the Met Office!! Learnt so much! Extremely knowledgeable speakers. Well done to everyone that helped organise it. We should book these two speakers on a regular basis. Fantastic!" - Matt Burgin (in-person session)
