DONT MISS OUT- Spend a weekend with Mountain Rescue

Bowland MR Don't miss out on this exciting and very rare opportunity to spend a whole weekend with Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue from Friday evening the 16th until Sunday 18th September.

This will be a superb opportunity to practise Mountain Leader skills alongside qualified Mountain Rescue team members, learn about their procedures, review your First Aid from the point of view of the rescue team and take part in a MR training exercise on the hill with the Team.

Meet and compare notes with other ML candidates, whether you are still qualifying or already hold the award.

There is excellent accommodation and catering at their base (Smelt Mill centre).

It's only £95 including accommodation and catering and is worth 2 CPD points! Bookings have already started to come in so book early to avoid disappointment!

This weekend has been organised by Chris Thomas (MTA member) of Bowland Mountain Rescue team and the MTA Peak Region. Bowland MR HQ

Draft programme:

Arrive Smelt Mill from 1800 onwards. Evening night navigation.

A full day on the hill with the emphasis on group management, pacing, timings and party management and safety on steep ground. Peer feedback. Back to Smelt Mill for around 1700. Dinner at 1900. Evening session to review the day. We hope to provide a speaker, and offer some guidance on using the DLOG. We end the evening around the log fire, no doubt relaxing with a glass of the beer or wine you may have brought!

Working with Bowland Mountain Rescue

Learn about the first aid kit which Mountain Rescue use, and the right kit for you to take as group leader. Talk to the team members about what to do until the rescue team arrives at a call-out. Later in the day there will be a search scenario getting groups out onto the hill treating multiple casualities followed by a stretcher exercise and a carry off. Finish around 1600.

The Team will provide breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, and the evening meal on Saturday. Participants will need to provide their own meal on Friday evening, either before arrival or using the centre's kitchen facilities. Participants will also need to provide their own packed lunches for Saturday and Sunday - the kitchens have ample fridge space.
