Great leadership is what makes outdoor instructors and leaders excellent. It inspires, enables and develops others. It makes you good at your job and creates followers who will want more from you.
We have all experienced great leaders at one time or another in our lives – they could have been a teacher, a coach, a manager or even a friend or relative. We know they are good because they make us feel more confident and competent, but how do they do it? Is it by accident, a personality connection, or is there more to it?
Great leaders create an environment that allows followers to develop their skills and personal qualities by stretching themselves into new and challenging territory – physically, mentally and emotionally. This is a risky business for the followers and so the leader needs to create a climate of shared vison and trust in their team.
Leadership is a skill that is developed over many years through wide ranging experiences and is highly transferable through all walks of life. Learning leadership through the trial and error of experience is the normal route for most of us. However, it is really useful (and often quicker) to have a model to work to if you want to be consistently effective in building teams.
The workshops will look at the Transformational Leadership model and will help you to develop behaviours that get the best out of the people you work with. The workshops are designed for all coaches, instructors and leaders (from any discipline) and will present the attendees with ideas and tools that you can use immediately with groups. It will also give attendees the opportunity to identify their own leadership behaviours and create an action plan for development.
Workshop provider
The workshop has been developed by
Samantha McElligott who will deliver all four workshops around the country. Samantha is a leadership consultant with a PhD in the effects of Transformational Leadership on expedition groups. She is a Mountain Leader and Single Pitch Award holder, as well as having various other coaching awards. She has worked in the outdoor industry for many years both as an instructor and leadership trainer and is an experienced expedition leader of youth groups.
The workshops are supported financially by Mountain Training England and are somewhat of a bargain. We would encourage you to book now while places are still available!
