Use workshops to help you develop
Whether you’re working through a qualification, keen to learn something new or looking for some CPD,
Mountain Training Association workshops are a great opportunity to get together with likeminded walkers and climbers. They are your chance to get additional input into your development so if there’s something you’re struggling with or something you want to try, find a workshop near you.
Most workshops are run by experienced trainers and some are peer-led and they’re all open to all members, regardless of where you live. (Occasionally some specialist workshops have prerequisites and if so they will be stated in the description.)

“Two CPD days I've been on recently were a look at management of Wild Ennerdale with Friends of the Lake District, and a bird ID course in the Brecon Beacons. They were both excellent and totally backed up my belief that a good leader in the outdoors has a responsibility to try and learn as much as possible about the landscape and nature, and to pass that knowledge on.
The workshops I've done have been brilliant, and have definitely made me a better leader.”- Alex Kendall

Here’s a summary of workshops for the rest of the year, roughly divided by topic: indoor climbing, outdoor climbing or walking. This might not be the most up to date list as new workshops are added all the time but it gives you a good idea of what’s available. The most up to date list can be found on our
candidate management system - click on the purple Mountain Training Association badge to view all workshops that MTA members can attend.

“This was the absolute clear benefit of the day for me- I’ve spent time looking at bird identification books and found it a pretty dull and questionable activity. This workshop on the other hand had so much to offer in terms of expert guidance, natural environment, a walk in the hills and good company- not bad when you consider it was free! It’s a great way to gain some first class knowledge and inspiration in a short space of time. I take my hat off to the people who go to the effort of organising such events and giving others access to their wealth of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm. I would recommend these workshops to anybody embarking on a walking award or just wanting to improve their knowledge in a specific area- just keep an eye on the Workshops page on the website”.- Richard Westlake (Mountain & Moorland Birds)
