Running a Lowland Walk

Seven hardy souls braved the heat and humidity of the Chilterns for Sunday’s South East Region CPD event, “Running a Lowland Walk”. While nominally aimed at those working towards the new Lowland Leader award, the members present included ML, MIC and IML holders, everyone with a slightly different reason for attending from learning more about the user group for the award to having an interest in working on Lowland leader courses in the futurew and with their own breadth of knowledge allowing discussions to draw on varied experience.

South East Lowland leader day

Topics ranged broadly, including group management in an urban environment, hazard awareness, and insurance. Surprisingly given the recent weather and the (lack of) altitude, we started the day with low cloud obscuring the highest point (and best view) of the planned route, which gave a good opportunity to look at the importance of flexibility in route planning.

We also gathered ideas for a number of future events - watch this space!
