If you normally renew your MTA membership via the BMC, read on...


To improve the efficiency of the payment process and ensure that you get instant access to your membership benefits after joining MTA, we are encouraging members to renew their MTA membership directly through MTA. If your membership is due for renewal from 1st September 2018 onwards, when you renew your MTA membership you need to do it through your online Mountain Training account, instead of through the BMC. The annual MTA membership fee is currently £34.

What do I need to do?

Don’t worry; you don’t need to do anything until your membership is due for renewal. At this point you will receive an email from MTA informing you that your membership is close to expiring. Simply follow the instructions within that email to set up your new direct debit payment directly with MTA. Or, if you want to know a little bit more now, keep reading...

Can I set up my direct debit now even though my membership doesn’t expire yet?

If you’re not due for renewal yet, it is still possible to log into your Mountain Training account and set up a direct debit for the MTA membership straight away today. If you do this, you just need to bear in mind that your direct debit money will be taken straight away and your new 12 months of membership will be added onto what you have left of your current year’s membership.

If you’d like to do this, follow the three simple steps below:

  • Log in to your online Mountain Training account – CLICK HERE TO LOG IN
  • Once you have logged in, you will be taken directly to the Memberships page. Click the Join button on the purple MTA logo.
  • Follow the online instructions to pay for your MTA membership and set up your new direct debit.

Other ways that you may hear about this change

The BMC will be adjusting your direct debit so it only takes payment for it's BMC membership, not your MTA membership. You will be hearing from the BMC by a Mail Chimp email. They may also choose to contact you by letter.

In addition to this news article, MTA will also be making members aware of this change via July's monthly e-newsletter, your automated MTA renewal emails (as and when you are due to renew) and targeted email and postal correspondence to those who are affected.
