Cross regional meet

North Wales - Peak exchange

A recent MTA event held over the weekend of the 13th and 14th of May saw the North Wales and Peak Regions of the MTA come together in a social gathering. The event was jointly organised by the North Wales and Peak Regional Coordinators, Paul Poole and Stephen Jones respectively.

The reason for this event was to bring members from each region together for a fun filled weekend of activities which included a choice of climbing, scrambling and walking and these took place in the Ogwen Valley, Snowdonia National Park, North Wales.

On Saturday, the group took part in some climbing at Clogwyn y Tarw - Gribin Facett on routes Slab Climb, Slab Direct and Slab Recess. On the Sunday, the group split with some members undertaking a scramble up the North Ridge of Tryfan, whilst others chose a circular walk up towards Y Garn and back down again.

Cross regional meet up
For me personally, whilst I am preparing for my Mountain Leader assessment later in the year, the weekend was a great success. I was able to refresh with ropework, particularly in steep ground and difficult step scenarios. I chose to join the circular walk on the Sunday which proved to be a great source of information covering topics such as flora, geology and the weather.

I would thoroughly recommend a weekend of this nature purely for the activities that I undertook, the knowledge that I gained and most importantly for the people that I met and spent time with.

What's next?

The Peak Region will be hosting a return event in September which I have already booked onto!
