Mid January AMI winter workshops


The Association of Mountaineering Instructors (AMI) is hosting its annual AGM mid-January at Glenmore Lodge and has some fantastic half and full day CPD opportunities that are also available to MTA members, so if you're in the area on Saturday 14th or Sunday 15th get involved. Avalanche

Following the 'difficult and testing' conditions of last year, you can never have too many updates on the latest snow science research. Get the lowdown on avalanche forecasting, plus tips and techniques for safe route travel, snow examination and heuristic factors. This workshop will be run by David Monteith and you need to be a qualified Winter Mountain Leader (or above) to attend.

Winter weather

A fantastic opportunity to glean as much insight as you can into weather forecasting from the guru of Scottish Winter forecasts. Geoff worked for the Met Office for 25 years before setting up the Mountain Weather Information Service and is a mine of meteorological knowledge. As well as providing the afternoon workshop Geoff will be taking measurements and issuing the forecast on Saturday and Sunday from the Lodge and will be on hand to answer any questions you might have while he's there.

A full day GPS workshop from an expert in the field. If you like pressing buttons on nifty James-Bond style gizmos and seeing how you can apply them to real life instructing situations, this is for you.

Learn how to use Social Media to market yourself. Explore the different types of social media and gain an understanding of what to post, when to post, tone, content etc.

PHTLS Bleeding & Trauma cert (B-CON)

A short course certificated by PHTLS. Dealing with life threatening bleeding is something that we hope we'll never have to do. Is it enough to hope..? Learn to handle the situation with this module usually delivered as part of the Pre-Hospital Trauma Care course.
