DDownes Dan Downes - Independent Director
Dan works for a UK based international management consulting firm, where he helps clients with operations excellence, systems engineering and complex programme management. Dan’s love of the mountains began with mountain and arctic warfare training in the Royal Marines. A holder of the Summer ML award, as well as hill walking Dan loves scrambling, rock climbing, ice climbing and alpine mountaineering. A married father of two sons, Dan lives in Buckinghamshire, which is not as close to the UK’s mountains as he would like. Dan focuses on supporting the Mountain Training Association and its strategy development.
RWard Roger Ward - Treasurer
I have worked in outdoor education for the past 30 years. I currently manage a residential centre in the Lake District for a Charitable Trust. As an active mountaineer, climber and paddler I have experience throughout Europe and the Greater Ranges. I have been delivering Mountain Training awards for the last 20 years. When I am not in the mountains or on a river, I can be found kite surfing, windsurfing or biking.
LHazle Laura Hazle - Independent Director
Laura's experience is from the International NGO sector, and has held senior leadership roles with her focus of expertise being in marketing and fundraising. After spending 8 years living in New Zealand, she has recently returned to the UK. Now based in the Peak District, she joins Mountain Training UK with a passion for hill and mountain walking.
EThompson Emily Thompson - Independent Director
Emily has worked in the not for profit sector for over 10 years, and as the Operations Director at Groundwork in Yorkshire she creates business opportunities and seeks funding to inspire young people and adults to challenge themselves, tackling worklessness and poverty. Emily is also a passionate Mountain Leader and MTA member, and is currently working towards her Winter ML. As a freelance ML Emily works a lot helping people of all abilities build their skills and confidence getting into the great outdoors. She loves an excuse to get out for long days out in the mountains and loves long mountaineering adventures, she has climbed 6000m peaks in Bolivia and Nepal, though is most passionate about Scottish winters. She is also a call out member of the Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team and supports the development of through creating web content and business development. She is also a board member of the BMC Access and Conservation Trust.
